Help us to continue with our Rock Festival for Words for Leeds.
Would you like to be associated with this exciting project? Do you feel as passionately as we do that reading is for everyone and that in particular encouraging children to read and be inspired at a young age is vital for the health and well being of the nation?
The Leeds Big Bookend Festival, now in it’s second year, is the first and only book festival in Leeds. We’ve got great plans for the festival this year, and we’d like to make this year’s festival bigger and better than last year. We truly believe that we have the makings of a wonderful annual event, and we’d like your support.
Organised by a plucky band of volunteers, the Big Bookend is operating on a pretty tiny budget right now, but we’ve got big ambitions. To get everything into place, we need that little extra infusion of money. That’s where you come in.
We’re seeking at least £1000 to support the cost of staging the Big Bookend this year. We can use more, of course; exceeding this figure will mean we can do even more. And any surplus will be fed into the budget for next year’s Big Bookend.
There are two ways you can support the Big Bookend firstly donating through our Crowdfunding page or by sponsoring the Big Bookend.
CROWDFUNDING and the Big Bookend
As part of our fundraising efforts this year, we’ve set up a Crowdfunding page on PleaseFund.Us
Crowdfunding works by giving you the chance to gain great rewards in return for making a donation. When you make a pledge, the platform holds off on taking payment until donations for the project hit a critical mass. No money changes hands until this is reached. And everything is dealt with through PayPal, so it’s 100% secure.
We’re hoping to raise £1,000 and we’re offering some great rewards in return for pledges of support. These include discounted and free entry to Big Bookend events, depending on the level of support you offer. Our most generous donors will also receive a copy of the LS13 competition anthology which we’re producing in conjunction with NAWE and Dead Ink publishing, signed by the winning authors. All donations will be gratefully acknowledged in our publicity content.
Sponsorship
We want our Big Bookend audiences to be children and adults from ordinary backgrounds and from the less well off inner city areas who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to listen to authors and interact with them.

We are happy to discuss a range of sponsorship options with you and can offer the following opportunities:
- Sponsor a particular event and introduce it
- 6 free tickets to your sponsored event and another of your choice
- A sponsor listing in our programme and on our website
- The opportunity to distribute your own literature and/or display a small exhibition stand at the Big Bookend weekend.
We are open to ideas so if you have a sponsorship idea in mind, we will listen.
Our team are all volunteers. The Big Bookend is a not for profit organisation and all profits will be put back into the next Big Bookend.
Donate
You don’t have to be a sponsor. You could simply make a donation. If you would like to donate to the Big Bookend we have Gift Aid status with HMRC. This means we can claim the tax back if you are a UK tax payer and gives us more money to use in future.
