The Leeds Big Bookend Children’s Festival presents…

EARTH, FIRE and INK

A fun, interactive day exploring stories that make us think about how we treat our world

Saturday 14th November, 11am-4pm at the Royal Armouries, Leeds

Come along to our fun, free, family day on the 4th floor of the Royal Armouries where we explore the themes of conflict and the environment. You can play games, write stories and listen to them and get creative.

Here are some of the activities that you can take part in between 11.00am -2.30pm, followed by our First World War Short Story Competition Awards at 3pm:

• Readings and activities from Nick Butterworth and Mick Inkpen’s Wonderful Earth

• Meet a WW1 Tommy and a Barnbow Lass

• Crafts and readings from Lauren Child’s Charlie and Lola: Look after your Planet

• Listen to the Tell Me Another storytellers @ 12.30pm and 2.00pm

• Get interactive with Leeds Museums!  Join the MyLearning team to explore medals and their meanings through their new app. Fancy awarding your own – they’ll have some cracking craft supplies.

• Write a story or create a character from the Forests of Leeds

• Readings from Susan Burnett, author of On That Day I Left My Boyhood Behind and you can chat to her too and find out more about her WW1 hero grandfather, Norman Woodcock

First World War Short Story Competition

• The First World War short story writing competition awards will be  presented to the winners by authors Susan Burnett and Daniel Ingram-Brown. This will take place from 3pm-4pm in the Dojo on the 4th floor at the Royal Armouries and will be for invited guests.
