Our May You Anthology Launched Last Night, and The Winners Are…

A year on from the start of  The Walter Swan Short Story Prize , we are delighted to have launched the May You Anthology of winners, published by Valley Press,  last night at the Leeds Library.

Members of Walt’s family and friends were in the audience, and Niccola and Finlay Swan and great friend Yvette Huddleston read 3 of Walt’s poems including May You which gives the title to the Anthology, followed by readings from May You writers Tabitha Bast, Andrea Brittan and Sarah Brooks.

One of our judges, Anna Chilvers was present to talk about the judging process that she and fellow judge, Angela Readman went through to arrive at their selection of the 19 stories that made the Anthology, from 300 entries. There were two highly commended stories from Olivia Tuck and Zita Adamson that so nearly made the final six. Anna then went on to announce the winners.

In first place, Leeds writer Sarah Brooks for her story, A Delicate Balance. Second place went to Derbyshire based Andrea Brittan for her story, The Final Delivery. Third place was P.V. Wolseley from London for her story, All Things Bright and Beautiful.

We had a wonderful evening. Thank you to everybody who came and contributed throughout the year to the Prize’s success. We would like to thank especially Niccola Swan and Yvette Huddleston from the Walter Swan Trust, our judges Anna and Angela, our publisher Valley Press and The Leeds Library for their excellent hosting. May You also owes an enormous thank you to one particular person and that is the literary powerhouse that is SJ Bradley.

May You (£9.99) can be ordered from Valley Press here but be quick as there are only 50 copies!
